Grief and Loss

Grief and loss can turn life upside down. When we lose someone or something important to us, it can affect how we see ourselves, our relationships and the world around us. Things that once felt certain or meaningful may no longer feel the same, and it can take time to make sense of what has happened and find a way forward.

There is no right or wrong way to grieve. Grief is a deeply personal process, and it often involves gradually finding ways to live with a loss while carrying its significance with us. Arts therapy can offer a gentle and supportive space for this process, particularly when feelings or experiences are difficult to put into words.

Through drawing, painting, collage, storytelling, movement and other creative activities, arts therapy can help you explore and express complex emotions, memories and experiences. Creative expression can provide a way to give shape to grief, tell your story and discover new meanings over time. It may also offer meaningful ways to honour and maintain a connection with someone or something that has been lost.

Arts therapy does not aim to “fix” or take away grief. Instead, it offers a compassionate space to acknowledge your loss, honour what is meaningful and slowly find ways to integrate your experiences into your life. Over time, this process can support a renewed sense of meaning, connection, identity and hope for the future.
